Wine from our own vineyard
In 2014, Fred and Arda van der Valk (third generation) turned their dream and passion into reality by establishing a modest vineyard here in Cuijk. The one-hectare estate consists of 1,500 vines spread over two plots surrounding the hotel.
Three years later, in 2017, the first harvest was organized with family and volunteers, a true labor of handcraftsmanship. A few months later, the first bottles of Terra Ceuclum were bottled. This was followed by a meticulous process to elevate the wine to the next level, a fitting task for Arda as a vinologist. Skeptics soon gave way to praise, and in 2018, their hard work was rewarded with a gold medal at the AWC competition in Vienna (silver in 2020 and 2022).
Terra Ceuclum wine is made from the Solaris grape. The name Solaris is derived from the word "solar" (sun), as it is an early-ripening variety. This ensures the grape develops enough sugar for flavor and alcohol, and it naturally has low acidity. These factors make it ideal for vineyards in northern wine regions. Solaris is also a fast-growing grape, which means it requires intensive care, making it a fitting variety for Fred and Arda, known for their hard work.
The Terra Ceuclum Solaris is a dry, full-bodied wine with aromas of ripe fruit and flowers, followed by a fresh, long finish. It’s delightful as an aperitif and pairs well with white meat, fish, and summer salads.
